The Tradition of Giving Easter Eggs
Second and third class studied the origins of the tradition of giving Easter Eggs, which began in Eastern Europe.
They learned that in the Ukraine. eggs known as “Psanky” were given by people to their family and friends. These eggs were decorated with different symbols. For example, wavy lines symbolised forgiveness, circles symbolised eternal life and deer or reindeer symbolised prosperity.
In Russia, Fabérge eggs were commissioned by tsars as gifts for their wives. These were made from gold, silver and platinum and decorated with precious jewels such as diamonds and rubies.
Second and third class children then focussed on either “Fabérge” or “Psanky” and designed their own eggs which can be seen in the pictures.
Happy Easter to all!
